With aging and childbirth, the muscles to the vagina can stretch and loosen resulting in decreased sensation during intercourse or difficulty achieving sexual arousal and/or orgasms. ThermiVa is an in office procedure for vaginal rejuvenation that uses radiofrequency to tighten the inside of the vagina as well as the opening of the vagina by stimulating collagen production. This results in not only a tighter vagina but it has also helped treat urinary leakage and improved vaginal lubrication for our patients. Both patients and their partners have reported significantly improved sexual satisfaction. Frisco cosmetic vaginal surgeon, Dr. Aimee Nguyen, specializes in vaginal rejuvenation procedures and ThermiVa for patients who want to restore their vagina without surgery. Her Frisco practice is proud to use ThermiVa as a nonsurgical alternative.

ThermiVa uses a radio frequency (RF) to control the temperature of the targeted thermal energy to the tissue of the labia or vagina. The procedure feels like a hot stone massage. Results include:
- Tightening the vaginal canal internally and at the opening of the vagina
- Tightening loose, stretched outer lips of the vagina (labia majora)
- Improving urinary control and treating mild urinary leakage
- Increasing vaginal moisture and lubrication
- Decreasing discomfort during intercourse
- Enhancing sensitivity and sexual arousal/orgasm
Results may vary but have been shown to last 1 to 1.5 yrs with maintenance touch-up visits thereafter, as needed.

ThermiVa is performed in Dr. Nguyen’s office after a thorough consultation. The small ThermiVa wand will deliver controlled heat in the form of radiofrequency energy to the vagina or labia majora. The advantages of ThermiVa is that there is no pain, no anesthesia required and no downtime. Patients may return to work after the procedure and may have intercourse the same evening.
ThermiVa usually costs between $3,000 to $4,500 which includes 3 sessions to treat the vagina and/or labia majora. The number of treatments depends on the quality of the skin and the desired result. The best results are seen for most women after 3 sessions set a month apart. Patients may choose to have both areas treated at the same time.

Dr. Nguyen recommends that patients receive 3 treatments set 1 month apart to get the best results. Results can be immediate in some patients or they may become noticeable within the first 3 months after the procedure. Results typically last up to 12-18 months, but yearly touch-up treatments can be scheduled to maintain the patient’s results.
In addition to vaginal tightening, vaginal rejuvenation treatments can help with urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, sexual dysfunction, and the symptoms caused by perimenopause.

The wand that is applied to the treated areas includes a built-in thermometer that transmits the temperature to the computer, which will adjust as needed to prevent burns. There have been no significant side effects or problems reported from RF vaginal rejuvenation.
