A mommy makeover is a great way to get your pre-pregnancy body back. Motherhood can take a toll on a woman’s body both externally and internally. Depending on the procedures that are performed during the mommy makeover, some patients will be able to leave the same day, but some will need an overnight hospital stay. After the surgeries, patients will have temporary swelling, bruising, and some pain for 1-2 weeks. A patient’s recovery may be slower or faster based on the amount and type of procedures in their treatment plan. In general, more strenuous activity will be allowed 4-6 weeks after the surgeries.

Final results are usually seen ranging from 6 weeks to 3 months once the swelling after the initial surgery has subsided. The results of the mommy makeover will be permanent as long as a stable, healthy weight is maintained after the procedures. Pregnancy, childbirth, and weight gain or loss after the procedures could compromise the results.

Combining surgeries will mean a long recovery time, but you will spend less total time recovering than if all the surgeries were performed individually.  For example, a tummy tuck requires 1 – 2 weeks of recovery before you can return to work, a breast lift requires 1 week, and liposuction also requires 1 week. If the surgeries were performed separately, the patient would spend 3-4 weeks total in recovery. However, if the tummy tuck, breast lift, and liposuction were performed during one surgery, the patient would spend 1 – 2 weeks in recovery. It is also best to minimize the amount of times that the patient is put under anesthesia.   

For the best and permanent results, patients should be at a healthy, stable weight and not planning any more pregnancies. Patients should allow time for their bodies to heal and recover as naturally as possible before having a mommy makeover. Patients should not be breastfeeding if they are having a breast lift or augmentation.
