A pubic lift is performed to correct the mons pubis area when it descends or collapses downwards due to weight fluctuation or age. Sometimes, due to hormones, excess tissue can also develop inside the mons pubis. The mons pubis is the area outlined by the pubic hair and includes the pubic bone and the soft tissue above the bone. The excess skin and fat can decrease self-confidence and create bulges and creases that can be seen when wearing fitted clothing. A pubic lift is usually performed with general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure in 1-2 hours. Dr. Nguyen starts by making incision lines within the creases of the groin, which will minimize visible scarring. Through these incisions the excess skin is trimmed away, removed and re-positioned in order to lift and tighten the mons pubis area. The incisions are closed with sutures, which will stay in place for about 1-2 weeks.

After the surgery, most patients are able to return home for their recovery. There will be mild discomfort and swelling for the first few days after the surgery and this can be alleviated with Dr. Nguyen’s post-operative instructions.  Most patients can return to work after 1 week, but a full recovery will take about 6 weeks. Strenuous activity and sexual activity should be avoided until the patient is fully recovered.

After a pubic lift, the mons pubis area will be flatter and will not be visible while wearing tight clothing and swimsuits, which will increase the patient’s confidence. If the patient maintains a healthy, stable weight after the procedure, the results will be permanent. Any pregnancies, weight gain or loss after the pubic lift will alter the effects of the procedure.

A pubic lift usually costs between $7,500 and $8,500, which include the surgery, anesthesia, facility fee, and all pre- and post-operative appointments. This procedure is considered cosmetic and is not usually covered by insurance. Financing is available through CareCredit.

A pubic lift is a generally safe procedure with no complications. There will be mild pain and swelling after the surgery. Possible, but unlikely risks include ongoing pain, bleeding, infection, and asymmetry. Following Dr. Nguyen’s pre and post-operative instructions will minimize your risk.
