Overview

Many women are uncomfortable with their enlarged labia minora (the inner lips that surround the vaginal opening) and labia majora (the outer lips), which can lead to self-consciousness and discomfort while wearing clothing, exercising, or having sex. A labiaplasty may involve sculpting down the labia minora, the labia majora, or both. Dr. Aimee Nguyen, a cosmetic vaginal surgeon in Frisco, TX (also serving Plano, Allen & McKinney), specializes in cosmetic vaginal surgery and offers labiaplasty, which produces natural looking results. Dr. Nguyen has performed countless labiaplasties, creating an aesthetically appealing outcome and a normal look and feel.

Surgical Technique

Labiaplasty is done on an outpatient basis with a light sedation (sometimes known as twilight sedation) or general anesthesia and typically takes around 1-2 hours. Minimal incisions are made in the skin of the labia majora or minora, and then the excess skin and tissue are removed using a combination of wedge-shaped and trimming techniques to achieve the best aesthetic result. Incisions are made carefully to avoid loss of sensation or pain after the surgery, and then excess tissue is removed. The remaining skin is pulled tight and a more contoured look.

Recovery From Surgery

Post-operative care instructions will be given to each patient. Patients will be given a panty-girdle to wear for the first 10 days to help with swelling. A sanitary napkin is recommended for bleeding or discharge. After their labiaplasty, most patients can return to work in 3-5 days, but patients should not exercise for at least 2-3 weeks. To help the healing process and promote the best results, patients should not engage in sexual activity for at least 6 weeks after the surgery.

What to Expect

Following labiaplasty, patients usually have more confidence and feel more comfortable in certain clothes and situations, such as exercise and sexual intercourse. The incisions from this surgery are almost completely undetectable, leaving a natural, normal appearance.

Labiaplasty FAQs

Potential Risks?

The most common risks involved with a labiaplasty are infection, permanent changes in sensation, ongoing pain, and scarring. Dr. Nguyen does her best to minimize all risks, but please discuss any concerns with her before your surgery.

Do I Need A Labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty may be performed anytime a woman is unhappy with the appearance of her labia, but it is commonly performed to repair a stretched labia, the labia after childbirth, to alleviate discomfort, or for medical concerns.

Plastic Surgeon or OBGYN?

Dr. Nguyen has spent three extra years of training in vaginal and pelvic floor surgery compared to most other general gynecologists who perform cosmetic vaginal surgery. Most plastic surgeons have had little, if any, vaginal surgery training. Dr. Nguyen has also trained under Dr. David Matlock (Dr. 90210), who is a widely recognized pioneer in Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® and Designer Laser Vaginoplasty®. Patients have been very pleased with the quality of care and expertise that she has provided and the beautiful, youthful cosmetic results of their procedures.
